COVERS - COVER SKETCHES by Kelsey Shannon

The first two covers above were made for BA #12. For some reason the editor asked for a late cover relacement, so the Riddler one was never published.

NEW : Kelsey Shannon's Batman Adventures cover concepts!

One cover sketch or multiple cover sketches?

Ty Templeton, cover artist on The Batman Adventures, Batman & Robin Adventures and Gotham Adventures:

"I did multiple cover sketches before the editor and I chose a final design...I tended to do at least two or three, but for some covers I did as many as ten."

Kelsey Shannon, cover artist on Batman Adventures:

"I usually only do one design and it's the one I want. Very rarely do they ask me for changes. I learned a long time ago that if you give an editor more than one design, they will ALWAYS choose the one you don't like. ALWAYS! So now I only send one at a time."

John Delaney, cover artist on Advs in the DCU and JLAdvs:

"In all the years I've been doing covers for DC, not once has the cover I thought was best been picked by the editors. Many of my fellow artists tell me I should only submit one idea so as to guarantee it getting picked, but I always end up doing a bunch of concepts anyway so I figure they're the one's paying for it might as well give them lots to choose from."
